About Nathanson’s

Nathanson’s Now

Everything has changed from the time we opened up our doors in 1972. Wet processed photographic prints, lots and lots of film and lots of processing of film, gone. The creative decision making process has totally changed. Once we shot an image and captured it on film there was very little that could be changed. With digital images the choices to edit the picture is practically infinite. You can do what you want if you know what you want. Then there are new options to print on multiple surfaces, different shapes and sizes without compromising clarity as size choices get large, really large. Photography is now loaded with creative choices so that we can produce and deliver a whole new level of artistic interpretation. We are now in a position to produce multigenerational art pieces to enhance your art collection to include commissioned projects of you and your family’s experiences to these new heights. These are products we feel very proud of and glad we are here to provide this high quality product for you.

Our Origins

A trip to the NYC in 1972 found me in the Cloisters museum which is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. What I saw was a system of support, the patron system. Those relationships produced centuries of art objects, paintings, sculpture, etc. from the 7th to the first half of the 19th century. 1300 years of primarily family art. On November 28th 1972 Nathanson’s Photography began this effort. How could I adapt that system using the technology of photographic art by establishing modern relationships to produce similar results? Well now the 21st century advancements in digitalization have provided the necessary link, to provide our patrons with Family digital fine art. Many of our patrons have been with us for multiple decades so now we can provide them with this technological gift. We can deliver at the most creative level ever. You have become a part of this revolution. We can deliver art object by printing images that are wide open to the editing process. We can then choose different shapes, sizes, and multiple surfaces to best tell your life stories. That’s all I wanted in the first place. I truly love this stuff.
